Overview

As more families welcome pets into their homes, the role of pets has evolved from companions to true family members. This social shift highlights the growing need for reliable methods of identification and management. The demand for accurate pet identification is especially critical for veterinary clinics, pet insurance providers, animal shelters, and dog daycare centers. By applying our proven biometric expertise, we provide a safe and effective way to manage pet identities—just as we do for individuals—ensuring both security and confidence in pet identification.

Challenges

An increasing number of pet owners rely on daycare centers while they are at work. Before enrolling a pet, however, daycare centers require a reliable way to identify both the dog and its owner. The current method—using microchip implants—presents challenges, as it involves inserting a chip into the dog’s body, which may cause side effects and has raised growing concerns among pet owners. As a result, many owners are hesitant to adopt this method. Daycare centers have therefore expressed a strong need for alternative solutions that can accurately and conveniently verify dogs and their owners without relying on invasive microchip implants.

Solution

Understanding the needs of pet daycare centers for reliable identification of both pets and their owners, UNION biometrics developed the innovative PetID Solution. This includes the PetID Scanner, designed with a contact-type optical system to capture a dog’s unique nose print, and the PetID Mobile Application, a non-contact alternative for easy and stress-free recognition. Many daycare centers prefer the mobile application since some dogs are sensitive to direct contact with a scanner. Leveraging UNION biometrics’ core technologies, we found that every dog has a unique nose print—just like every person has a fingerprint—making accurate and secure identification possible. By applying this similarity, UNION biometrics offers two types of dog identification methods, and daycare centers are now adopting the PetID Solution as a safe and convenient alternative to microchip implants

Value Delivered

UNION biometrics not only applies its core fingerprint technology for humans but also extends it to our beloved companion dogs, as more people consider pets as part of the family. As a leader in biometric technology, we remain committed to continuously developing our solutions and expanding the scope of protection.
