[PRESS RELEASE] UNION biometrics’ ‘HealthID’, based on Class 2 medical device certification, emerges as a solution for preventing construction site disasters

Leverage construction site health monitoring costs, occupational safety and health management costs
Determine worker health with facial recognition-based contactless vital signs analysis
Increase field reliability and operational efficiency with medical device class 2 certification technology

UNION biometrics (CEO Yosik Shin) announced today that it is expanding its market in the construction safety sector with HealthID, a health monitoring solution for construction site workers.

Recently, the field application of UNION biometrics HealthID is also gaining attention as construction sites are now able to expense worker health monitoring as an occupational safety and health management expense.

HealthID is a smart healthcare solution that measures workers’ vital signs and identifies health abnormalities using only facial recognition. Construction sites can check the health status of workers before they start work to identify cerebrovascular disease risk, abnormalities in high-risk groups, and potential safety incidents on the job.

Construction is an industry with a growing number of older workers and a compounded risk of adverse health outcomes due to heat waves, cold spells, and long working hours. In particular, cerebrovascular disease is an area where it is important to check health status before and after work and manage high-risk groups, and there is a growing demand to adopt worker health monitoring in the field from a disaster prevention perspective.

HealthID is based on contactless biometric analysis technology. Its strength is that it can measure vital signs by looking at the camera, without the need for separate wearable equipment or contact measuring devices, reducing the burden of use for field workers and improving operational convenience.

It also applies camera-based non-contact vital sign analysis technology that has been validated through the digital medical device class 2 certification. This increased the reliability of the technology for health monitoring on construction sites.

Traditional sphygmomanometers are a contact measurement method that is worn directly on the arm, which can create a hygiene burden when the device is used repeatedly by multiple workers. It can also have administrative limitations, such as long measurement times, measurement bias depending on instrument proficiency, and reusing other people’s measurements.

HealthID, on the other hand, can be measured in a non-contact manner by looking at the camera for about 15 seconds, reducing the burden of hygiene management by touching shared equipment, and increasing the reliability of on-site health monitoring by measuring based on facial authentication.

The confirmation that occupational safety and health management expenses can be executed is expected to ease the cost burden on companies that are considering adopting health monitoring solutions to prevent worker accidents at construction sites.

With HealthID, UNION biometrics plans to expand its occupational safety solution business focused on preventing worker accidents, including pre-work health checks for construction site workers, monitoring high-risk groups, and managing anomalies.

“Safety management at construction sites is expanding from providing protective equipment and reactive measures to proactively identifying health abnormalities in workers and preventing accidents,” said a UNION biometrics representative. “HealthID can contribute to the risk management of cerebrovascular disease among construction workers and strengthening the disaster prevention system through contactless health monitoring.”
