“Advancing anti-spoofing and access control technologies for high-security environments”
UNION biometrics, a leading provider of biometric solutions, announced on the 24th that it has been granted two key patents for security facility access control.
The newly granted patents cover a system and method for evaluating the spoof-detection capability of biometric terminals, as well as a biometric access management kiosk, including its user registration method and access registration system.
The first patent enables the automatic recognition and analysis of authentication result messages displayed on biometric terminals after a user completes verification, allowing for the quantitative assessment of a terminal’s anti-spoofing capabilities. It can evaluate any terminal regardless of software or hardware configuration, operational method, or display format of recognition results. With its fully automated system, thousands of tests and analyses can be performed repeatedly without any manual setup.
The second patent introduces a biometric access management kiosk and registration system that can effectively prevent unauthorized or fraudulent registrations in security facilities with multiple users. It supports time-limited access control, allowing entry only during pre-set periods, and provides a streamlined re-authentication process for previously registered users, ensuring secure and efficient management of all access activities.
These patents were developed as a result of an R&D project funded by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, entitled “Development of Evaluation Methodologies for Biometric Access Authentication Systems Against Spoofing Threats in Nuclear Facilities.”
A company spokesperson said, “Through the registration of these patents, we have secured technologies for biometric access management and biometric terminal evaluation, applicable to high-security facilities such as nuclear power plants. We will continue to advance our biometric technologies and strengthen our competitiveness through participation in various national R&D projects.”
