According to industry sources on the 21st, growing concerns over AI-driven security threats have recently intensified following issues surrounding Anthropic’s latest AI model, “Claude Mythos.” As AI rapidly evolves beyond simple productivity assistance into areas such as software vulnerability discovery and attack automation, concerns are mounting that conventional security frameworks alone may no longer be sufficient to respond effectively.
In fact, Amazon Web Services (AWS) revealed in a security analysis published last February that attackers leveraging commercial generative AI were found to have compromised more than 600 firewall devices across 55 countries over a five-week period. AWS explained that the attacks did not rely on sophisticated new hacking techniques, but rather on the rapid AI-driven discovery and automation of existing vulnerabilities, including exposed administrative ports, weak single-factor authentication structures, and poor password practices.
As AI continues to enhance the productivity and efficiency of threat actors, the limitations of password-centric static authentication systems are becoming increasingly apparent. Once compromised, passwords can be easily duplicated and reused, and many users still rely on the same credentials across multiple services. As a result, there is growing recognition across the industry that organizations must move beyond single password-dependent authentication models and adopt next-generation authentication frameworks with stronger resistance to phishing and credential-based attacks.
In this context, biometric authentication is once again gaining attention as one of the most practical approaches for implementing next-generation authentication systems. The method verifies users through biometric data such as facial recognition or fingerprints, while the actual authentication process is carried out in combination with cryptographic keys stored on the device. Unlike passwords, biometric credentials are difficult to share, duplicate, or repeatedly reuse, and they eliminate the need for users to remember complex strings of characters. As a result, biometric authentication is increasingly being recognized as a key enabler for advancing authentication security.
The direction attracting the most attention within the industry involves combining biometric authentication with device-based verification, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and public key infrastructure (PKI)-based architectures.
Ultimately, industry experts suggest that the key challenge in the AI era lies in transitioning away from authentication systems that rely solely on passwords toward more sophisticated, phishing-resistant frameworks. In this shift, biometric authentication is increasingly regarded as one of the most promising approaches for enhancing both security and user convenience.

As generative AI amplifies the productivity and capabilities of attackers, fixed string-based authentication systems alone are becoming less capable of guaranteeing effective defense.
